Marathon MoveMENt

This past month, MoveMENt, a men’s wellness group, decided to have a jam-packed weekend that truly embodied work hard play hard. Everything kicked off at Ethos Training for a Cross-fit style workout followed by group breakout sessions discussing mental health topics. Soon after, Nude Dude Food rolled up to the scene with a delicious catering spread.

But it wasn’t over.

The very next day, over 100 people came out to represent MoveMENt in the Lifetime Fitness Chicago Half Marathon & 10 K. The theme of the weekend was “Choosing To Do Hard Things, Together,” and that’s exactly what they did. A 10K run with 10 burpees every kilometer, all while wearing a 20lb weighted vest. The energy was electric from a group that showed up to support one another in this battle against one’s own perseverance.

Colorful Creations

This past month, I decided to break out the color to bring a little life to this dark, rainy season. In an effort to level up my portfolio, I did a deep dive on some of the artists that inspire my work most and realized that I could use a pop of something fresh and new.

This project, titled Colorflex, focuses on the cool and fashionable side of athletic wear. Sometimes you just want a fit that shows off what you worked for while going to the grocery store. Let this be your inspiration to keep the sweats on, but consider pairing it with a sweet jacket or some Cyberpunk shades.

DOMAIN - Bret Gornik

This past month, I’ve been working on a new personal project titled: DOMAIN. So many of my projects focus on storytelling through production, styling, and visual “pop,” but I wanted to lean into a slightly different direction. I felt inclined to do something raw, authentic, and relatable to the fitness experience.

I sat down with Bret for a short interview before taking these photos, and the one thing that stood out to me the most was how this gym wasn’t only built for him, but to foster a healthy relationship for his daughters with fitness. Hearing this really sparked a curiosity in me about the relationship between an individual and their personal space that they dedicate to growth. A domain, if you will.

Functional Fitness Friday

This past month, I’ve been working with my personal trainer, Jimmy, who needed new photos for his upcoming website. I was immediately on board when he presented me with a mood board that focused on “the cool and sexy aspects of fitness and mobility.” The core themes included dark tones, an urban environment, and a certain attitude that really sparked inspiration.

Jimmy is a great source of knowledge for how a body can and should move, which feels like a refreshing departure from the industry’s typical obsession with aesthetics alone.

This project really gave me the opportunity to step away from my typical on-location work and focus on telling a story about what a healthy body is through simple details instead of a highly produced scene.

New Yoga New Me

"Stasis" explores the harmony between motion and stillness—a state of balance where stability meets flow. This cinematic project highlights the profound connection between yoga practice and the surrounding environment, capturing moments where movement and mindfulness become one.

A major component of this piece is a key focus on the audio design. Put on your best headphones to start 2025 with some relaxing vibes.

November Update: Shooting My 5K Struggle

This month, I laced up my running shoes and grabbed a camera to document my first 5K journey. Balancing training with photography has been a unique challenge—capturing every stride, stumble, and victory along the way. Covering the experience has pushed both my endurance and creativity. Follow along in ups and downs of this incredible experience as I get closer and closer to overcoming my first dreaded 5K run.

Strength in Sync

This past month, I decided to focus on more group scenes in my work. What better way to do that than showcase the dynamic relationship between a trainer and their client? Our story features an older, more experienced lifter teaching their younger counterpart how to dial in their form on some new exercises.

I went with a darker spotlight style of lighting to keep the focus on the connection between our two characters. This was achieved through the use of flags, reflectors, and gridded modifiers.

Friday Fight Night

This past month I stepped into the ring to capture the incredible world of boxing. Coincidentally, not one but two clients were interested in shooting training montages. The first project, titled “Boxes,” follows our subject as she warms up and begins her training session with a coach.

In addition to this, a friend and longtime client, Rieffe, asked me to help update his boxing photos. This year, we went for a darker, edgier approach to what we’ve done in the past. The storyline follows a more experienced fighter who now knows exactly what he needs to do to win.

Stylish Shots for Studio Three

This past month, I had the pleasure of working closely with Studio Three to capture scenes of their latest programming. In order to achieve an elevated look that was still true to the member experience, we set up a class demonstration filled with Studio Three coaches.

I set my lighting up to essentially “light the room.” This allowed me to move about the space and capture genuine, candid moments while still giving every shot a poppy, highlighted look no matter where I was positioned.

Exploring Recovery Techniques

This past month has been filled with tons of fun projects and opportunities. Since there was so much going on in my personal and professional life, I needed to take a step back from the intensity of the gym and look towards rounding out my experience. This led me to learning more about the body’s recovery process and other resting techniques. My latest project explores scenes of foam-rolling, massaging, and even nutrition.

Step Into Spring

This month, I had the pleasure of working on an upcoming project with fitness trainer and influencer Danyele Wilson. We came together to create some incredible motion shots while sneaking in some relaxed poses as well. Every month, I’m learning more and more about the direction I want to take my work, and this shoot has really reinforced my style.

Moody Motivation

In early 2023, I began a project titled “One Rep Max” that showcases people from a variety of experience levels powerlifting their personal records. The catch? You don’t see a single weight. Every image features a closeup of the participant’s expression while achieving this monumental feat. What I’m referring to as “Season 1” has come to a close. Who’s ready for all the crazy lifts we’ll pull off this year?

What Moves You?

This month I spent a lot of time dedicating myself to one particular project that focuses on a single question: What Moves You? This video showcases the movements that we do in both our everyday lives as well as our active ones. A huge thanks goes out to the incredible crew that helped make this vision a reality.
